Frequently asked questeions

Q-1) Why do males go bald only to a defined line and hair loss stops at that point?

A-1) There are DHT receptors in the area that goes bald and not in the part that does not.

A-2) Under hormonal influence there is a change in the localized immune respon- se in the balding area, so the hair comes under attack from the body's own im- mune system.

Q-2) Why do hair transplants grow in the bald area if it has DHT in ?

A1) It is believed that the DHT receptors are actually in the follicle itself. If they do not exist in the follicle that is transplanted then they are unaffected by the DHT levels in the surrounding tissue.

A2) The hairs that are transplanted do not have the same localized immune response as the area to which they are transplanted.

Q-3) Why do ladies develop hair loss so much after menopause?

A) The hormonal changes that happen at menopause make a female's hormones slightly androgenic (male like) and a number of male characteristics are taken on including hair loss.

Q-4) Do five alpha reductase inhibitors make you lose your sex drive?

A) Some of the drugs that inhibit DHT do affect a small percentage of the men that way, whilst they are taking the drug. Certain plant sources have also been used as DHT inhibitors and they appear not to affect sex drive as much.

Q-5) What does a topical application mean?

A) It simply means that the substance is applied directly to the scalp.

Q-6) Why do men with hairy bodies tend to go bald?

A) Both appear to be linked to DHT levels. Paradoxically, DHT appears to promo- te hair growth in certain follicles and restrict its growth in others ( some believe that this is due to DHT effecting the immune system) If a person has a hairy body it means that DHT is being produced.

Q-7) Was there once a report that said that bald men had lower sex drives than hairy men?

A) No: the report claimed that the testosterone levels in the bald men were lower than their hairy counterparts. It did not measure their sex drive, but most people, believing that sex drive and testosterone are linked, jumped to that conclusion.

Q-8) What is the connection between heart disease and hair loss?

A) Two recent studies have shown that bald men have a greater incidence of heart disease. It would therefore appear that baldness may be involved in a larger health issue. For example cholesterol levels are often used as a marker to coronary heart disease and one of the reports has shown that bald men have higher cholesterol levels than non bald.

Q-9 Did I recently read that exercise is good for hair loss?

A) A recent article showed that long distance runners had lower testosterone levels. Testosterone converts through to DHT which is implicated in hair loss. Conversely stress will increase testosterone, so if you are going to run regularly, slowly build up to it-do not stress the body.

Q -14 Why do we not hear about Folligro™ in America.

Folligro™ was originally developed in Germany and has been slowly gaining popularity in Europe. The license holders are waiting until they have a sizable distributor in the USA that understands the sensitive nature of the Hairloss market before launching it to the USA. There is a clinical study currently being carried out, following the release of which an American distributor will be more actively pursued.

Q15 - What happens if I stop taking Folligro™ Systems?

Due to the fact that the exact cause of hair loss has not been isolated as yet ( ie DHT and the immune system are known to be involved, but exactly how is not known ), it is difficult to give a categoric answer. It is unknown exactly why Folligro™ 1 is beneficial to hair. Early users reported that they took it for six months and then reduced its use or stopped completely, but still maintained its benefit.

A logical approach therefore would be to begin to reduce the dosage after six months to a level that holds hair loss back.
